| Roscoe Village In the late 19th and early 20thcenturies, German immigrants settled the area four miles northwest of the Loop, many choosing to work in the industrial plants lining the Chicago River to the west or in the industrial corridor along Ravenswood Avenue. Out of these working-class roots grew Roscoe Village, which today, while still working class and family-oriented, is attracting an increasing number of young professionals and couples to the area. Situated between Addison Avenue on the north and Belmont Avenue on the south, with the exploding Lakeview community just to the east, Roscoe Village showcases an abundance of classic bungalows and three+ bedroom homes, many of which feature beautifully manicured gardens (often highlighted in the annual Garden Walk). The neighborhood also has direct access to downtown via the CTA's Brown Line, with a stop at Paulina. While the community is quieter than its neighbor, it offers vintage charms all its own. With eclectic, independent-minded boutiques, antique shops and restaurants, Roscoe Village is centered on a shopping strip reminiscent of a quaint small town. Antique Row on Belmont Avenue is a six block stretch from Ravenswood to Western and has the largest concentration of antique stores in the Midwest. Locals flock to bars and restaurants serving diverse cuisine, from classic American at Kitsch'n on Roscoe, to tasty Thai at Thai Linda Café. And not to be outdone by other urban communities, Roscoe Village has its own Farmer's Market in the summer months and hosts the annual Retro on Roscoe, a neighborhood festival which attracts over 30,000 visitors. A next-door neighbor to West Lakeview, it also provides residents with access to Lakeview's restaurants, entertainment venues and shops. It's also quite close to Wrigley Field. Less crowded than Lincoln Park and Lakeview, residents settle here to embrace the small-town atmosphere. www.roscoevillage.org
