Lawndale is blue-collar community located on Chicago's westside. Though Lawndales past is marked by many trouble times, the community stepped in during the 1990s with many projects intended to revitalize and improve upon the neighborhood's community. Organizations such as the Lawndale Christian Development Organization have worked in the neighborhood to refurbishand remodel homes. The Steans Family Foundation is another not-for-profit inthe area, which works to improve community life. They describe themselves as "a small family foundation" that "concentrates its grant making and programs in North Lawndale" and "by dedicating time, money, and skills... works in partnership with local residents and institutions to build and enhance the North Lawndale community".
Community revitalization has brought many new businesses and residents into the area. Shopping centers, malls, and many other establishments seem to spring up daily in this up-and-coming community. Lawndale is hallmarked by its moderate homeprices and new commerce have attracted many new residents to the community.
