Dunning is a neighborhood located northwest of Chicago's loop. It is a community comprised of several smaller communities including Belmont Heights, Belmont Terrace, Irving Woods, Schorsch Village and The Villa. Until recently many of Dunning's residents were of the older retired generation, but recently the moderate home prices, pristine and well maintained homes, and reasonable apartments have attracted many young up and coming residents. The popularity of Dunning has increased a great deal recently, thus home prices have increased as much as $10,000.
Wright College, a public college opened in 1934, sits within Dunning, making it a home to over 15,000 students of all ages. Portage Park is located in Dunning, which is known as being one of Chicago's more scenic and relaxing spots in the summer months. The park features basketball and tennis courts, ball fields, playgrounds, swimming, walking trails, field houses and hosts several youth programs for the neighborhood children.
Dunning's architecture consists of well-maintained single family homes, two and three brick and frame style flats, and many courtyard style rentals.
