Clearing is a Chicago community located ten miles southwest of the downtown area. The neighborhood gets it's name from the fact it began as a "clearing" yard, or place where farm goods from the area were "cleared" (delivered) through the airport and railroad yards.

The Clearing area quickly became a part of Chicago in 1915 because the growing population needed services provided by the city. With the advent of Midway Airport and the Bedford-Clearing Industrial District, many commerical businesses have graced the area bringing in new jobs and thus increasing the population of this industial community.

There has been an exposion of new construction to the north side of Clearing, but the neighborhood is still known for its moderately priced row houses and bungalows.
