Big Oaks is a residential neighborhood located on Chicago's far northwest side, and as the name suggests, it is an area composed of quiet and charming tree-lined streets. Big Oaks was originally named for the Big Oaks Golf Course, which was demolished in the 1950s to make way for more housing.
The community is nestled in Norwood Park and is located next to several parks such as Dunham Park, Norridge Park, and Austin/Foster Park. Most noteably of course, it the Ridgemoor Country Club, which provides an upscale enviornment for members of the community to congregate. Some of the best homes in the city are located in what is called, "The Circle." This area was slated for demolition in the 1950s to make way for the Kennedy Expressway, but residents convinced the city to leave the area untouched. Left in its place are some of the city's most luxurious Victorian mansions and farm homes, usually starting at $500,000.
Big Oaks is committed to it's locally owned restaurants and bussinesses that dot the neighborhood's landscape. It's almost suburban atmosphere lends itself to the area's family oriented enviornment. Many schools in Big Oaks have been named some of the most sought after educational institutions in Chicago.
