Ashburn is residential, blue collar, and family friendly community located nine miles southwest of Chicago's Loop, which is named for the fact that Chicagoans once used it as a place to dump their furnace's ashes. Though the community was extremely slow to grow at first, railroads and the post war boom during the 1950s brought many new residents to this area, many of which still reside there today.

Ashburn is extremely committed to the continual improvement of the area boasting many organizations that work in it to boost and strengthen the quality of life for its residents. Ashburn was originally settled by Irish immigrants and this tradition is still refelcted in many of the neighborhood's current bussinesses and picturesque and stoic Irish-Catholic churches that enrich the landscape.

Buyers are attracted to the area due to the reasonable home prices, ranging from $75,000 to $250,000 for a single family home. Architecturally, the area is know for it's classic Chicago bungalows, Cape Cod, and frame style homes, many of which date back to the early 1900s. People are also interested in the area because of its close proximity to expressways and Midway Airport.
