Andersonville is a quiet residential community located five miles north-northwest of downtown Chicago. Originally dominated by the Swedish community, this now diverse and family-oriented community, which is bustling with new commerce, construction, and most of all, people. The neighborhood's Swedish heritage can still be seen up and down the community's streets in such establishments as Ann Sather, The Swedish American Museum and other bakeries and delicatessens.

The main stretch of commerce in the community is located on Clark Street between Edgewater and Foster Avenues. Swedish, Persian, and rainbow flags line the streets of this area, also known as South Foster or SOFO, is unique as a commercial district, because it is made up almost entirely of locally owned, independent shops, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, taverns, a chocolatier, and other service providers.

This vibrant community is also know for its fantastic street festivals. Resident and visitors alike can choose from the annual Sidewalk Sale, the Andersonville Arts Weekend, the Midsommar Festival, and St. Lucia's Festival of Lights during the holiday season.

Much of Andersonville is composed of luxurious vintage single-family homes, but is also filled with multi-units, and new construction properties. Andersonville boasts home, tree-lined streets and clean architecture, with many brick frame, bungalows and A-frame style housing.
