Albany Park is a Chicago community eight miles northwest of Chicago's Loop, and is one of the most culturally diverse communities in the United States. With a population of 58,000 it is a gateway community, a major port of entry for new arrivals from around the globe. People of different cultures have been making Albany Park their second home since 1907, when the Ravenswood brownline el train began to bring development to the sparsely populated neighborhoodaround Kimball and Lawrence avenues. Twenty-five plus languages are spoken in this culturally rich community.
The neighborhood’s Korean heritage is apparent in this community with a stretch of Korean markets, restaurants, shops and businesses down what has been nicknamed "Seoul Drive." One can also find many other culturally oriented shops, restaurants and businesses in Albany Park. The Chicago River borders the area, creating a scenic layout for some of the city's most relaxing places residence and recreation.
The architecture in this urban environment is just as diverse as the people that populate it. Albany Park’s landscape is beset with multi-flats and courtyard building near the Brown line L at Lawrence and Kimball, two and three flats further away, and bungalows in the western areas.
